Actually, Iowa has been in less straight up ship-to-ship battles than Warspite afaik. Most of Iowa's career post-WW2 was shore bombardment and artillery support.

As a matter of fact, I don't think Iowa ever fired her guns on a hostile target after Korea. New Jersey participated in Vietnam and the Lebanese civil war, and Missouri and Wisconsin participated in Desert Storm, but Iowa's career in the 1980s consisted solely of training and showing-the-flag exercises.

Were as Warspite saw some serious combat in two World Wars. Jutland being the first major thing, than a bunch of stuff in World War II. She does have the credit for one of the longest ranged ship to ship hits with gunfire. Something like 26,000 yards (around 23,800 meters).

I just realized that Iowa isn't shocked by the stand, but the Warspite can stand up. I guess she thought Warspite was chairbound.

    Fun fact.

The Iowa stabble a destroyer at 39,000 yards, the Nowaki, at Truk. Her guns are far more accurate then Warspites by a far amount. Even the British admitted this.

And there is the fact that Warspite can't hurt Iowa without closing to under 20,000 yards while Iowa can hurt Warspite at well over 30,000 yards. Plus more guns that are bigger.

Add in Iowa better speed meaning she can ditated the range that they fight.

Warspite is a 20 year old design compare to Iowa. The refits didnt change that.

Depends on how you define "hit". For example, Yamato straddled a US Escort Carrier at 34,587 yards at the Battle off Samar, except that while American records showed it as a straddle, the shells went where they were supposed to go and did significantly more damage than a direct hit would have. In that sense, Yamato might hold the record for longest hit by a battleship, not Warspite.

By that system of thought, the record for longest ranged hit by a battleship belongs to the USS New Jersey OR USS Iowa (possibly both) verses the Japanese Destroyer Nowaki at approximately 39,812 yards.
The Nowaki's captain recounted his ship being raked by shrapnel from the HC shells, which was the American HC shell's primary damage method verses destroyers. Therefore, 'exactly what the shells were intended to do'. Faulty doctrine? Possible, but that's not the point.

And Destroyers are rather small targets compared to a relatively huge escort carrier.

For actually confirmed hits, however, Warspite is still right up there.

    Also,

This is a myth that has been debunked by the Japanese.

Warspite Holds one of the longest while moving to Moving Target hits, hitting an italian battleship at the listed range of 23,800 meters, the other one of these hits was from Scharnhorst, who landed a hit on Glorious at about the same range
