The KongouXIowa pairing died because of Warsprite, along with what was left of Iowa's popularity. Sad days, Iowa lost her only pairing and her popularity.

There's always Katori, who is the only one Iowa ever actually has anything remotely approaching a historical fight with...
Plus, she specifically mentions Kirishima in her hourlies.
Besides that, she has more images on Danbooru than some of the shipgirls that have been implemented from the start of the game...
Aren't most of those girls either player 2 Fubukis or light cruisers that (sadly) no gives a shit about outside of couple classes (Tenryuus, Sendais and Aganos)?

What we cuould say, Touhou launch Clownpiece and KC Iowa later, the hype from the sites where we recolect the images was with the artists. And similar situations has ocurred with the foreign ships like Prinz and Bismark. It's just hype, eventually some shipgirls with new remodels or improvements will gain some popularity in game, from the artists and the fandom , most of the copyrights, especially Touhou, have passed through that.

(It's not like Aganos get the love they deserve, either...) But anyway, you're only calling them "Player 2 Fubuki" because they're not popular. Hatsushimo was the ghost ship that only appeared in "absolutely everyone" images until she got a kai ni, and it's not like Kazagumo or poor Okinami are copy-paste Fubukis, and nobody even noticed Okinami's introduction. Oyashio explains it well, here, and she's only appearing in a running gag about being Ushio's mom because of her name.
And even if you want to restrict this down to battleships, Iowa's also already surpassed Hyuuga and Ise, who mostly appear in jokes about how buff they are. So yeah, I don't think Iowa's got much to worry about with popularity, at least until KanColle gets flooded with other blonde, blue-eyed, large-breasted American BBs (mark my words, the USN will be more Aryan than the Kriegsmarine...) a couple years down the line. (And by then, she'll probably get New Jersey or Missouri calling her "Onee-SAMAAAA!!" and making a new pairing, since sister pairings are mandatory around here...)

You can say that, but there's still no shortage of Touhou. Just looking at what was uploaded in the past 24 hours for an only slightly scientific measure, 118 images for Touhou, and 145 for KanColle. Yeah, KC's ahead, but that's hardly running Touhou out of town... Artists like Rappa flit back and forth between KC and Touhou, while Mizuki Hitoshi has been doing Hang in there, Kogasa-san for 6 years, now...

Uh, I think he was referring to the Fubuki-class ships-aside from Fubuki and Murakumo, obviously that were included from the start.

Yes, that's my point. Hatsuyuki and Shikinami are more popular than Hatsushimo and Okinami, and the former are the flagrant "just change Fubuki's haircut and you're done!" ships.

Iowa still has Yamato, a fact a lot of people seem to forget.
And Warspite, too, is a passing fad. Her (and Iowa's) popularity are/were built off of Kongou.
