Wait, the same ship is adjoined with rivets, welding, AND screws?
Usually a combination of techniques are used when you build stuff. Rivets for shear strength and tight fitting where materials are too thick or welding too expensive. bolts for replacable parts or connections that need some play for even loads, welding for general joining of materials where rivets can be compromised. I don't know all the pros and cons, or how ships were made in WWII, but SMAW was coming out at that time to replace the costly oxyacetylene setups and rarely is anything built 100% with the same joining method.
