Reminds me of a vet who lost his leg. I remember once he brushed his prosthetic really fast next to a table leg and winced even though it didn't hit it. He said sometimes he feels the pain/reaction as if his leg was still there even though it isn't. I assume he will get better as the muscle memory fades but man, I can only imagine how surreal that might feel.

Phantom pain is hard to overcome, the more unlucky ones might even experience it for the rest of their lives.
