I think I remember seeing some news somewhere that shows the game is stalling out and losing altitude pretty fast. Something about having lost over fifteen million frequent users since the beginning of summer 2016. Of course that doesn't mean much. There are still millions frequently playing, which is better than what most games do, and there could still be millions of infrequent users who don't get counted; app charts don't always specify what exactly they are counting.
I would imagine that unless the app gets some kind of second wind, it will be nearly dead by this time next year. That's my bet.

Yeah that sounds about right in my opinion, I was playing around with the idea that the amount of new artwork for this particular pokemon game was directly influenced by its popularity in the home countries of the artist who created these works and had them submitted to the site.
