I would argue that 200,000+ dead Americans 7Million infected and many those with lasting side effects does not count as working out really.

You can't prevent the spread in a truly free country

... No it's really not. Plenty of other free countries have done better and still are. Even most of the ones suffering from the predicted second wave are doing far better than the USA in almost every way.

That was the estimated figure for how many people would die if we did literally nothing at all, not a forecast of the most likely number of deaths. The US is among the worst countries in the world in terms of deaths per capita.

There wasn't even a loss in cupsize to begin with. He was mad long before the remake was even confirmed in development.

"Epidemiologists, who study the spread of infectious diseases, rely on data collected about diseases combined with statistical analysis to create predictive models of different outcomes to figure out how best to deal with outbreaks. A model developed by researchers at Imperial College London and published March 17 suggested that without any mitigation measures in place, the coronavirus could kill 2.2 million people in the U.S.

That's an entirely hypothetical scenario, because it assumes that all government agencies would ignore the virus and would take no steps, such as social isolation, to reduce its spread."

I belive this is what you are refering to. Please note the bolded parts as well the fact that was back in March when the world still didn't fully understand the virus.

--without any mitigation measures in place, the coronavirus could kill 2.2 million people in the U.S.

That's the part that struck me back then, personally. Quite literally, I recall reading that, after a build-up of how dangerous the virus was supposed to be, and I said "What, just over two million? that's it?" It's such a screwy lowball number that it didn't seem logical. As I have mentioned in somewhere else's comments, the way it was originally explained to me was "millions dead is just months". That's obviosuly far far worse, but it also didn't sit well with me. The number felt more credible, but also made less sense, comparatively, considering how we were already hinted by China's behaviors in the initial outbreak.

I don't blame anyone for thinking less of a call that describes a terribly deadly event that, if absolutely nothing is done, will kill only 2.2 million. It definitely sounds like something that you can persevere through and bounce back from without having to take extensive drastic behavior. Having less than a million people risk dying is horrible but destroying the livelihood of a hundred million, including the million who would potentially not be dying, sounds like a terrible trade-off from a utilitarian standpoint.

I understand your logic but disagree with it. 2.2 Million is still an absolutely massive disruption in the economy even if the majority of those 2.2 million are the elderly and already sickly. It also doesn’t account for the sheer fear factor such an event would cause. Even now businesses all across the US are either closing or being forced cut staff and hours because people are too scared to come in. People aren't robots they won’t keep shouldering on even if they are at minimum risk to die from it. Would you want to do something that had even a 1% percent chance of causing you to die if you could otherwise avoid it. Or perhaps just as bad be the one responsible for some else dying because you gave it to them.

Furthermore this is all not accounting for one of the more insidious aspects of this thing. Like I mentioned earlier, while it’s true most people who get are going to survive a lot of them, possibly even most of them, are going to have lingering medical effects. Some will be lucky and they might go away after a time but for some it could be anywhere between a mild cough or perhaps occasional feelings of faintness, too never be able to walk unassisted or leave their house without an oxygen tank for the rest of thier lives.

Ironically this virus hit the sweet spot to be truly dangerous. If it had been more deadly people would both take it more seriously and it would be more likely to burn itself out. If it had been somewhat less we might have been able to go on with mostly ignoring it just treating it like another flue. That combined with how easily it can be spread often without even knowing it is being spread and you get what we have now. And let's not even get into the potential horror story of if it mutates sufficiently that it could potentially reinfect people who already have it. That would be down right disastrous.

Its to be expected after such a high tense election. The same thing happened 4 years ago. Personally, I think its nice that people are able to have civil(as much) discussions about most of this stuff and in these related/contained parts rather than all over the place. Its also nice to see the different views, without all the vile and vitriol of other discussion locations.

From what I see, alot of people seem stress and better they have an outlet and let it all out rather than blow themselves out in real life since here, the cute anime gurls tamper most of the anger...as much.

Ten days left. This is history in the making.

Not history I wanted to see, but history none the less.

Let us hope that the next four years might be better with Biden than the last four have with Trump.

And that this isn't repeated in a pattern like in Germany from the 1920s to the 1930s.

It's going to be a hell of a uphill battle for him. The disaster from the last 4 year is not George W levels, but it is close to something of an absolute disaster that even 8 years might not be enough to fully fix and that's only assuming there will only be fixes. Skeptic as I am, I'm not even sure if Biden would be able to do more than maybe, and that's a big maybe, put stuff back on track/normal. Hell, even if Jesus suddenly came back down to earth and try to fix the world he would need a miracle and that still probably won't be enough.

As with the 1930s reference, you better pray to god or whatever known deity or wish genie the next "Trump" who comes into power won't be the competent one especially proven how easy it is for someone such as him to gain this much power and influence that will live on and fester for the rest of America's democratic days.

Eh, the first three years were decent enough, if not chaotic from a reporting standpoint due to the "can say no good thing" aspect. It's the fourth year and the stress of Covid where everything actually started to crumble. At the very least, the current regard of Biden - "ignore any shortcomings, hope for something to calll a success" - is much more calm than anything written about the last one. It's actually somewhat "Right" of them.

If the current measures people and politicians are trying to enforce as a solution are all that will happen, though, this is all just going to come around to us again, perhaps worse, as it will have more time to refine. When Trump first came on the scene with a real chance of winning, he was shunned, all of his supporters summarily shunned, and that's how every big voice has regarded the matter for the past four years - with venomous hatred without disarming conversation. That's also where this started - the marginalization of the individuals who bolstered Trump's base, the ones who felt that no side of the system gave them a chance ot express their greivances without guilt, fair or otherwise their point. Regardless of their failures, forcing those people back to the recesses of the country, whether of not that's actually possible, is not a solution. That's merely putting Jack back in his box. The only way to weed out these issues is to actually converse with each other fairly face to face, and allow each back into the one another's process in such a way that the virtues of a vision can be extracted from the vices of an excess. Both sides need this to happen for their own policies, pooled into one thing we call a government. That's how this system is supposed to work.

While Biden might want to be a unifying President, I don't know if his own supporters will give him that chance, even if he asks. The past four years have demonstrated the hatred that desires to keep people from talking to each other honestly.

He might say that he is unifying and address only issues from his supporters. "We stand strong together and accept all people if they are deemed reasonable"

Well Trump goes down in history as the worst president. It does not matter how far from truth it is - nobody liked him practically means there really was nothing to like about him.

Democrats are much more unforgiving of moral and hypocritical issues of their candidates than Republicans. Notably, Al Franken was basically drummed out of office by the party for sexual harassment reasons, meanwhile Matt Gaetz managed to be elected despite pedophilia allegations.
