So I get that the game is apparently really good

But I'm wondering why this game was so hyped before release. There was a ton of media and fanart and stuff and just about everyone who plays Japanese games I've seen buzzing about it since it was first announced I think maybe two years ago

Is the drakengard/nier series a really huge deal in japan? Is it just because of dat ass? Were the trailers just really promising?

mostly that but also because it was a Taro x Platinum game. One of the most talented writers in video games and one of the best studios for making exceptional quality games (even their licenced games are decent) in the industry teaming up to make a sequel to a game no one was expecting to get one.
