It is funny that not all shipgirls follow the criteria ''at all''.

Some in the same class are shorter despite being 1st or 2nd in their class. Others tend to be busty despite being like 18th or something.

Notice the difference of about 45m between Yamato and Akagi compared to Mutsu's written length (about 25% more length), but the image, which even demarcates the 150cm mark (so you should be able to easily measure them as roughly twice the distance above that line as Mutsu is), shows Yamato and Akagi as barely any taller than Mutsu.

This image is to scale and shows a Yamato that's almost inuhumanly tall. (In Imperial Customary, Yamato would be a bit over 8' 7" tall... and some light cruisers like Yuubari and Katori are half her height. Destroyers like Akatsuki (3' 10") don't even come up to Yamato's hips.)

you can't expect multiple artists drawing a class to stick with the same standards though... like comparing Hamakaze (drawn by Parsley) and Kagerou (drawn by Konishi). that being said, Hagikaze is way bustier than Kagerou.

Another example: Umikaze (7th) and Harusame (5th). Based on Umikaze's lines she's counted like she's the first of the Revised Shiratsuyu class (aka Umikaze class). Ichiso tweeted that Yamakaze (8th) is shorter than Kawakaze and Suzukaze because she sank first.

realistically i've seen younger sisters that is taller or curvier (or both) compared to their older sisters.

It's more that the only ships where sisters really do look alike, people constantly complain that they look too much alike. Shibafu's destroyers, in particular, are constantly harped upon, and there are people who complain every time a Yuugumo comes out that they keep the same uniform in spite of them having wildly different personalities (and are quite expressively drawn, at that).

I don't know if it's deliberate, but I like that Akagi's only as tall as Yamato because she's wearing her platform shoes. In my head, it's an acknowledgement that she cheated a little and got some of her overall length from her flight deck. :)

A friend of mine had made an idea that the girls in the same class are not really technically sisters more of some kind of sorority group in school.

Some are actual, others aren't.
