Back when IN was new, somebody from the english touhou community who knew japanese e-mailed him suggesting that. If memory serves, he said he wanted to keep the core Touhou games his work.
There were even plans on shrinemaiden IRC to make a patch to replace his character art with better stuff but nobody ever went through with it. In a way it'd be pretty insulting to the drunkard skeleton.
That said, this is my absolute favourite non-burning-things Mokou pic ever. This redesign is great, hot and cool. I especially like how they still used her trademark suspenders concept, just a bit differently. Ok, a lot differently. I don't even know what I'd tag those.
