It wasn't awful. I am just unsure about what it was trying to accomplish.
That being said, my guess it was to explore Satori's character and focus on the hardships she goes through and her vast loneliness on behalf of her ability, longing for someone to show affection towards her, but had that chance slip away. The Koishi ending, I take it, was a band aid over the whole thing, to keep it all from getting depressing.
