Thats shinai actually, but i think boken whould work better, since its less flexible, but then again, if you dont want to hurt her and want to do that position shinai is the way to go.
*Kendoka* A Bokken is a solid wooden "blade" which is for the purpose of learning form. You don't attack people with it. It hurts like hell, but it's not that deadly.
A Shinai is a "blade" made up of bamboo slats and has a hollow inner. It's not a toy (If it's a quality one, anyway. You can buy shitty ones that disintegrate when you look at them.) You CAN harm someone with it. This is why we wear bogu, and the targeted areas are solid. They're used for training and tournament use.
The two names aren't interchangeable. Neither are a toy.
