    Fleet Journal 239

Hayase: "By the way, I was eaten by that new type Abyssal, right?"
    Admiral: "Eaten, nom nom."
Hibiki: "You and me, we're nom nom friends."
    Hayase: "Ouch..."

※ As I mentioned in the afterwords of C92 volume, the military has nothing to do with the birth of Abyssals.

Not sure what to think about this new info. She was actually DEFENDING HERSELF FROM ABYSSALS? (from her point of view)

For now it seems to imply that original Abyssals are actually a new race but NEW TYPES of Abyssals are shipgirls that somehow fused with them but still retains part of their minds.

Well aware, but I also am very much aware of the Unreliable Narrator and Lying Creator tropes. Given everything else that's happened, I'm more than a little suspicious. I can already spot at least one loophole here.

Oooh, now lets speculate! - if we assume the most basic abyssals (destroyers) are the real ones, and they attach to and modify hosts, then they suppress all cept the most basic brain functions and then change their perception to make them fight.

Would that mean humans are abyssals "resources"?

I am utterly certain that the narrator is just being unreliable to troll our expectations.

Because if he's not, then I have a bridge to Terebithia to sell you in the Sahara.

No, this is characters inside the story's universe speaking. They can only tell us that they don't think the military did it, and the whole point of this storyline seems to have been that our heroes have been very much in the dark about the true nature of everything.

And this is yua in the commentary, hence my earlier notes of the Unreliable Narrator and Lying Creator tropes:

The commentary's been nothing but nonesense recently so I've been ignoring it. I guess that'll show me.

There's something I realized just now that feels off.
Now that you mention it, you looked stunned when we cut off your tail.
There've been speculations that Abyssals are BOWs developed by either our or foreign military, even amongst us.
    Oh... there's one more.
    ...What?
...Well, that's unlikely. The world was totally unprepared when they first appeared.
We've been literally raking in information from scratch. In a sense, them being some unknown new species sounds more reasonable.
...In my eyes, the attacking Abyssals
suddenly turned into people... Into you and the others, Captain.
I should say it's the difference between before and after I came to myself...
I remember that the moment my consciousness returned, I was struck dumb for a second.
    At that moment...
