  • たつき監督が2期監督降ろされた件、KADOKAWA側の声明がないので今のところは静観しようと思って雑トレスしました。どうなることやら・・・

There's been no statement yet from Kadokawa on the matter of Director Tatsuki being dropped from directing season 2, so I did this rough trace while considering that all we can do for now is wait and see. I wonder what's going to happen...

I've no clue if this is actually what the image is about (because it's not translated at the time of writing), but the only guess is that it has to do with Kadokawa firing the director of KF season 1.

Oh my I wonder what could have happened and was this long-standing plan that was suddenly revealed or just as sudden as it seems

It is. If I got the gist of it, it's about holding people back.
There's a few really angry tweets (from what I saw, probably more), but, mostly, there's just confusion as to 'Why' they decided to fire him.

Everything indicates it being to the latter, but, so far, it seems that Kadokawa hasn't made any official statement on the matter. From Tatsuki's last tweet (irodori7), it seems that he was shocked about it, as well.

Apparently even the VAs are shocked that this happened and have been making a bunch of sad tweets about it.

The director's name became the #1 trending topic in Japan and the event had generated 41k+ tweets already in the morning. I'm willing to bet the vast majority aren't exactly happy about this.

The storytelling was what made this anime better than it looks. And as the director, Tatsuki was most likely responsible for that.

I am not so optimistic for the future of Kemono Friends anymore...

The latest couple pieces of information:

From http://kemono-friendsch.com/archives/38885 : a post appeared on Futaba Channel containing the following:

    -------[けものフレンズ][たつき降板][パターン23]
    これ以上カドカワを叩いてもけもフレファンが社会常識のない人達の集まりだとわかってしまうだけかと
    カドカワも問題はありそうだけどそもそもの発端はたつきの問題
    少しは常識や社会倫理を身に着けたほうが良い

    -------[Kemono Friends][Tatsuki being replaced][Pattern 23]
Even if you keep flaming Kadokawa, it'll just show that KF fans are a group of people with no social etiquette.
Kadokawa seems like it has its problems, too, but the start of it all is Tatsuki's problem.
You should learn some common sense and social ethics.

The post then disappeared, and reappeared about a minute later without the first line.

    ------

Official news release from Kemono Friends Project at http://kemono-friends.jp/archives/category/news/ (the site has been getting hammered, copy available at http://kemono-friendsch.com/archives/38957 ):

    Show

Someone else can translate the whole thing if they want, but here are a couple of quotes:

We received word from the animation production studio Yaoyorozu in early August that they want to step down from the project

Yaoyorozu corporation, which handled the animation production, used the work without sharing information or contacting the various groups involved. As we wanted to ask them to handle the next video project as well, we sent a request to them that they share information beforehand, but Yaoyorozu replied that they could not accept that condition and so they want to step down.

Naturally, the fans aren't buying it. For one thing, there's this tweet from Yoshizaki Mine in April: https://twitter.com/yosRRX/status/849338523312377856

At the last meeting, when I said that even after it ends, you're free to keep making it, I got the feeling that director Tatsuki's eyes gleamed... could it be!?

Kadokawa going full Konami now. They deserve a round of applause for this amazing achievement. And half a cup of cold cum with just a hint of diarrhea.

Oh wow, this just keeps getting worse. Want to take bets on how long before people simply boycott the entire company's works in protest?

Barefeet, their heads seem to be up their asses so far in terms of the optics of this that they'd probably thank you for giving them something to drink besides diarrhea.

Edit: Did they seriously try to pass the buck on this?

Is this a trend when a pilot season does really well the next season they switch the production or animation to another group for some reason. It just seems to happen so often and then when they change it to seem like the series tends to just stop dead in the water. The next thing is when they make the change its always so mysterious no explanation is given or the bare minimum.

They have a goose that lays a golden egg and then they say alright we have the egg we can take it from here and then kill the goose. I know they say there is no bad publicity but after Kokoro Connect I would expect them to be a bit more cautious or transparent on what is going on from the beginning. Now it feels like they are hurriedly trying to cover themselves. Also, why are they so surprised that new travels so fast I mean Twitter they have a department dedicated to that they must know as soon as they say anything its pretty much in the public domain.

I just think there must be more to these decisions.

Well, to be honest from what I have heard from a friend who's had to work with people at companies in Japan remotely, they're pretty monolithic. They probably didn't think that news would travel so fast, or expect the backlash, simply because they're likely not "caught up" on said platforms or how they've grown. Let alone the communities that their works have spawned.

But they should remember that Kokoro Connect incident or at least Purple cipher machine

In most cases, it is a consequence of the chronically understaffed anime industry working on too many things at once on a tight schedule.

Obviously not the case with KF, though, which is about the brass forcibly taking control over the formerly worthless IP that suddenly became a money-maker.

    Some more updates:

Regarding the "used the work without sharing information or contacting the various groups involved" thing, via http://kemono-friendsch.com/archives/39109

    • Kurita Shigetaka, an executive at Dwango, says that they haven't received any official complaints asking for episode 12.1 to be removed, so at least so far, there are no problems with it
    • irodori's Kemono Friends doujinshi is labeled as having special permission from Kemono Friends Project
    • JRA (Keibajou collab) have stated that they went through Kadokawa and had permission for the video back in March
    • Donbei (Fukkura collab) have stated that they were in contact with Kemono Friends Project and had permission for the video back in June

    http://kemono-friendsch.com/archives/39157 & http://kemono-friendsch.com/archives/39170

    • On the 13th Kemono Friends Hour, the seiyuu were made to apologize for the uproar, a technique known as the "seiyuu shield" (executives hoping that they can deflect criticism by making the blameless seiyuu apologize). Video of that part (with niconico comments) currently available here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=neicunZGTc4
    • On niconico, the 13th Kemono Friends Hour got 51.1% "very good" and 28.2% "not good" ratings from the viewers. For comparison, the 10th Kemono Friends Hour was rated 90.9% "very good", 0.8% "not good".

I feel bad for the VAs being used as a shield. Especially since their project is the one that just got screwed over.

Dwango is a part of the Kadokawa Dwango conglomerate, and Nico Nico Douga is owned by Dwango.
