But what about koi? Which their name references in the Japanese version, said name being 'koiking'.

I think I remember reading something in-game or somewhere that they're just skin and bones with hardly any meat.

Koi are a domesticated variety of carp, specifically Cyprinus rubrofuscus if Wikipedia is to be believed.
