Is it the same game with, um, stuff like this and that? Not that anything other than fan service happens anyhow. Is RELOADED an improved or completely different game?

That's my big beef with most touhou fan games. They stray so far from the canon it's almost unrecognizable as touhou, imo this is especially true for Aquastyle. Their art direction is so bizarre and picked out. Some characters follow canon to an extent, in both looks and personality while other are complete fan exaggerations. For example, Reimu, Marisa and Alice all look like they're 12 years old in Aquastyle art, where as Sanae and Sakuya look almost twice that age. Sakuya can get a sorta pass since her age is unknown and she looks older than the rest of our heroines in canon. Sanae on the other hand should not due to having a appearance and age similar to Reimu and Marisa in canon. I mean take a look at the pos by to the right and wall scroll on the left in the link below. The difference in appearance is so mind boggling and just looks so out of place.

I'm not even noticing Reimu's appearance. I'm much too busy staring at her head accessory that would flatten two miles of land in conal shapes off to each side of her head if she suddenly sneezed.
I totally see your point. Newcomers buying the game would get this as a first impression.

Of course she has those giant bow-wings. How else is she supposed to fly? A bearded turtle?

Everyone's gensokyo is different which is exactly why touhou has prospered so far in the fan community. if you really want Canon lore and Canon designs go read the mangas or play the game otherwise layoff with being insulted by fan work that would never be canon
