Gangut really needs to improve her naming sense.

Went with 'Giant One' as a counterpoint to 'Tiny One'. (As /dekkai/ is more emphatic than just /dekai/)

Revision here only changed the か
to かい at the end of Ташкент's last line, as well as making her eyes and stars shiny.

And she should be: isn't she the only proper Soviet ship right now?

Technically? No. Tashkent was built in Italy by OTO. So she's similar to Kongou, except Italian -> Russian instead of British -> Japanese.

Well tbh, Tashkent was only partially built by the Italians and left port unfinished without any guns or turrets whatsoever until the soviets finished it, unlike Kongo which was fully built and designed exclusively by the British.

All the weaponry in Tashkent was soviet in origin, while Kongo is basically a British ship that the Japanese bought.

So Kongou is originally a British-ship but bought by Japanese

No, the Japanese commissioned Vickers to design and build Kongou, so she was an IJN vessel from the start; she just wasn't Japan-born.

She also went under quite a lot of refitting over the years, so the WWII Kancolle Kongou has a lot more Japanese parts in her than when she first launched.

Oh, Iowa is going to have a field day with this... and from what people are saying about her origins, I wonder if Tashkent may end up hanging out with the pasta ships purely out of nostalgia. Or trying to convert them to the cause.

Ah yes, but problem is that while Big is okay, it doesn't match that well with Tiny (Big and Tiny?)

Same reasoning as to why I went with Tiny One rather than Little One (chikkoi vs chiisai) in the first place. If it was /dekai no/ rather than /dekkai no/ I probably would have gone with 'big' as the translation, however.

(I do think Big One sounds nicer in isolation, though.)

    Ah, no.
I know your reasons. Just wanted to say I thought it sounded better.
So, as usual, I didn't edit the notes at all, see?

The latter is likely. Red terrorism was a thing in the 1950s-1970s in countries like Italy and Japan, since those were in the process of being rebuilt after the war and therefore vulnerable to attempts from commies to overthrow the governments. France also had that problem.
