My condoleances to Germans for their loss in 1st stage and being the 3rd Champion in a row to not make it. Being World Champion is a curse, excepted for Brazil it seems.

You can laugh Saturday at the match of the lame ducks: France vs Argentina.

Protip to the future World Champion. Dont talk about 2002. World Champions that talked about it seems to have jinxed it like Italy and Spain did.

I don't know what Warspite is saying but it is important to remember that England hasn't won the World Cup for 52 years.

Speaking of which, it seems England is the mostly perennnial representative UK team. It's been some time since Scotland was in the fray, a very long while for Wales, and who knows how long for NI. (Why do WESNI have to compete separately in FIFA matches in the first place?)

Historical reasons, at the dawn of association football all the "countries" within UK had their own football associations and then decided just to roll with it.

Even in the "International Football Association Board", which determines the laws of the game, they are separate members and FIFA is just one of the members.

Don't mock Bismarck Richelieu, because you didn't shine at all during that 1st round : Played poorly against Australia and Peru, and went to the WORST match of the competition so far against Denmark (To be fair, our french coach is an ***hole with very questionnable strategies and go "But we finished on 1st place, that's all that matter").

Still I want them to kick out the other lame team who passed the 1st turn and can only rely on one unrealiable-that-will-cry-and-then-announce-that-he-will-quit-after-his-next-defeat guy and their crazy-must-go-to-jail old "idol". I can only pray.

Gangut will not have an easy match this time. Yamato still playing as I write this comment and Warspite is the most impressive of the bunch so far I guess ?

I'd like to imagine Graf is the same way as Bismarck, but we don't get to see that because she is blind and unable to figure out how to leave her room.

Not that you did that much better having never won the World Cup for once, since 1966.

Among us Vietnamese WW2 group on Facebook there's one thing kept getting talked this World Cup, and that is if the superior race of Aryan can finally defeat the land of Russia this time around. Now it's about how Stalin's spirit is protecting the Motherland from the German. You are not the only one making such relations.

As someone told me, "Probably the biggest German campaign failure on Russian soil ever since The Eastern Front!"

Of course, Warspite and Riche probably shouldn't celebrate yet. This World Cup is full of surprises. My friends are betting on Belgium, now.

This is with hazy memory, so bear with me.

I remember my Mom talked about how in the 70s or 80s, it was Belgium versus the Soviet Union in a football match and Belgium was slated to lose. The French Announcer began with the banter that Belgium should just quit and go home, but when Belgium managed to block the Soviet Union and then score in overtime (again this is hazy), even the announcer was ecstatic. For the next week, there were flags raised outside the people's homes in Belgium.

My Grandmother said to my Mom that she hoped no one got sent to Siberia for losing against us.

Yeah, it certainly was a fun experience. It was 2 AM, and while I wasn't sitting in front of a TV I could hear cheers shaking the earth from afar. I never had my hopes up this time around so I didn't bother to watch the news right away, so it was next morning that I got to know the results.
What can I say? Such is football, and such is sports. You can't let your guard down 'til the very last moment. This should be a nice wake-up call to any team who's thinking they have a free pass to next round just because their opponent "looks feeble".

Yes, Warspite. I'm talking to you.

Senegalese should be not only upset at Japan cynically dropping the ball in the last 10 minutes but also at that defender shilling at their goalpost and likely missing to save that ball at that last quarter .

Schadenfreude from England losing to Belgium? England lost 1-0, to one of the tournament favorites, while resting most of their starters, after already having secured advancement to the knockout stages and looking much better than Germany did at any point outside of the late second half against Sweden.

Bismarck has nothing she can throw back at Warspite, and won't for at least two years.

If the England team gets KO in the next round, at least Germany didn't have to watch them play even further. Japan getting through in Fair Play rules wjs weird, though.

    Germany has been eliminated.
Even though they won the last one, they were in the lowest group this time.
