This is a study I worked on last night of Makoto from Street Fighter. I'm trying to add my own touch to this character's design and lore based on the research I've done for her. To be honest there isn't much to this character at all which is disappointing. She was always a quick pick for me in Street Fighter.

Her original lore is that she's trying to bring prestige back to her families dojo after the death of her father. Nothing inherently bad about it just nothing too special going on here. All we really know is that she's hot headed and not particular honed in her martial arts.

What I have in mind is that she was kicked out of her father's dojo for refusing to practice their style properly, constantly modifying it into her own self proclaimed "better" style. She leaves to study abroad but returns on hearing that her father has died. She dawns her father's old gi and sees this as the best opportunity to prove that her style is far superior to her father's and heads out for the world tournament to bring prestige back to the family dojo. Underneath the facade of an arrogant blowhard she's deeply hurt over the loss of her father but won't admit it. Her family views her act as impudent and shameful but her older brother understand that she means to honor her father.

I have more notes as to how I'd like to shape the character. Maybe I'll include an entire written piece a long with this month's illustration.
