I've always found it funny with some "clothing" brands where you seem to pay more as the amount of fabric included goes down.
A good example was Dr. Dre's Beats. The exact same headphones were available for like 200 dollars less but my brother insisted. Branding does things to people.
As of recent return from my trip in Europe, it was always confusing me afterwards: Plain nondescript denim trousers of decent quality: 3-5 glasses of beer worth. Denim throusers made of suspiciously similar fabric but looks like it seen it's better days with all that tear, wear, holes, sometimes random patches and bought new from boutique: tenfold price of mentioned plain stuff.

I know me mum talked about how when punk fashion became a thing, people would either buy perfectly good jeans and bleach/cut them, or pay money for pre-worn Jeans. All the while the types who would actually be punks (or hooligans) found it absurd. After all, they wore torn clothes because its what they got, not as a fashion statement. They would get liberty spikes for a fashion statement, since hair is free and cheap to shape.
