So unless there's a last gasp from Bowser, it looks like Bowsette did win after all.
And ultimately, as I guessed (though it wasn't exactly a tough call) she won with the Power of Friendship - one of the key advantages Bowsette had over Bowser, in compensation for her deficit in brute force.
