A young man who's been making a name for himself in the Sinnoh League. The calculating type, he plans out his battle strategies in minute detail before putting them into action. He has a gentle personality and loves his pokemon deeply. Lives in Veilstone City with his brother Shinji.

Memo So here's Denji, the eighth gym leader in Gen IV, well-known for being kind of a NEET and for his wacky back-and-forths with Ooba. I introduced him knowing right from the start that he was going to lose to Green. I don't regret that decision, but I am kind of sorry I didn't show more of him in action. Originally I did have more cool battles with Denji in mind, but they didn't really gel with the way the story was going, so I had to cut them. As a result you don't really get a great idea of how strong he is in this work... My sincere apologies to all the Denji fans out there! Maybe if I was more creative I could have come up with more for him to do... It'd be a shame for him to just disappear from the story now, so maybe I'll work in some more scenes with him. At the very least, I'd like to include some of his comedy routine with Ooba.

Memo Shinji was one of Satoshi's major rivals during the Diamond & Pearl arc...but forget that, let's talk about his brother, Reiji! Like with Akira before, I wanted to pit Red against a character fans would know, so I introduced him here at the end of the prelims. His backstory in the anime does include him competing in the Indigo League in his youth before becoming a Breeder, after all. But that's more of a coincidence than a detail I actively sought out. Since no one calls him by name in this manga, I made his outfit look like Shinji's as a hint, but I think that may have been too subtle and only made him harder to recognize... Did anyone know who this guy was? Lol.
