Joumon motif
縄文 "Joumon" means "cord marks". The Joumon Period (縄文時代) is the earliest named period in Japanese prehistory, possibly reaching as far back as 14,000 B.C. It is named after its characteristic style of pottery, where cords or rope were pressed into the wet clay, leaving an impression.
