I wonder if it wouldn't have been better to broadcast as it is and make improvement once the Blu-ray will be released? 3 months to wait, they would have more time to fix with the Blu-rays release IMO. That's a first for me to see an on-going anime being push back like that.

I would have understood if they waited until after the holidays or maybe a whole month but 3 months sounds like overkill, how can improving quality on 2 episodes take that long?

Probably understaffed. I'm not aware if they have any other projects on hand.
Though I would argue that the script is terribly written. It won't matter how the animation quality will improve if they don't clean that up near the end.
According to Jlist they're going to re-air the whole series starting in January working up to the final episodes in March. Should be interesting to see what improvements they put into the episodes.
The Regalia anime from 2016 got pushed back after only getting four eps in but that delay wasn't as long.
Now if you'll excuse us me and Ark need to get back to our plans to infiltrate Naga/Mutu's bath time.

This happened with Girls und Panzer even down to same season it aired and got delayed. It started on Fall season 2012 and ended on March 2013, however, with GuP, iirc, the delay helped kept the BD sales going. The vol 1 week 1 sales were actually low but then it kept getting higher until reached 30k. It remains to be seen if the similar delay will have a positive effect on Azur Lane

Supposedly Bibury animation is also working on the Grisaia spin-off, Phantom Trigger.

God Eater anime was also delayed. It started in Summer 2015 and was finished airing on March 2016.

Oh, I haven't seen them so I didn't know. I guess the most I've seen something delayed is like a week or two to a month (though I don't remember what was that for and what anime it was).
Oh, that's probably because it depends on my mood and the period. Like sometimes, I feel like watching anime, or, read some manga, or even play games a lot, or some other things.
I think when that anime came out, I wasn't in mood to watch nor discover anything anime related. A bit like right now, I'm currently more into reading manga which is faster (and because I'm working now, I have less free time to enjoy too, which results me being less on Danbooru and do some translations for fun too).
Azur Lane is an exception since I'm playing (not always) the game, so the anime got me curious about how it'll turn out compared to KanColle season 1.
Maybe when I feel like it again, I'll give it a try (I still haven't seen some others "must see" like KonoSuba nor DanMachi to name a few).
Yeah it's complicated but that's how I work after I noticed myself about that.
I don't see why they needed to delay for animation quality. It doesn't look that bad. It certainly looks better than DragonBall Super did in it's first 30 episodes (and the less we say about Naruto's animation the better).
