As a desktop Linux user since 2009 the daily temptation to jump ship back to Windows is extremely high. Especially with Windows 10 being all kinds of amazing (except for the forced Windows Update).

The fact that something which can be achieved with one click in Windows needs as asinine number of steps in desktop Linux is ridiculous. Take desktop shortcuts for example: Weston and Gnome 3's desktop do not allow desktop icons or shortcuts, so to have a self-compiled binary execute I have to handwrite a .desktop file in $HOME/.local/share/applications/<name>.desktop, and then logging out / in to have the binary show up in the desktop menu. And if I want my binary to be the default application certain file types, I need to append new entries in $HOME/.config/mimeapps.list

In Windows, all I have to do is to drag my binary to the desktop if I want a shortcut. And if I want a file to use that binary as its default handler, all that is needed is right click file --> Open With --> Browse --> Select self-compiled binary.
