I'm fortunate enough in the West never to have lived in such conditions --- like an endless tower of old tin cans --- although Europe had places of over-stuffed poverty,of course, like Naples; so can't imagine what it's like, either in Dhaka or Brazil. Although counter-revolutionary --- theoretically being a convinced Divine Right Monarchist --- in such places I can't see the benefit of not revolting and overthrowing the elected devils.

It never achieves anything, since it just transfers power from one set of politicians to another set; but at least it throws a scare into the rascals.

I guess the problem partly tends to lie with the populace in that regard. If elections are held and they overwhelmingly vote for another authoritarian figure or religious party then that just shows that said country just isn't ready for democracy. Of course, there need to have been elections in the first place. If another party handly fills the power vacuum with little to no difficulty then it wasn't a revolution, but a coup.

Well, another facet is that in many backward countries the choice is reduced to two binary choices: both of whom are essentially the same [ a la Gore Vidal ] *, each of whom assume insist that policies have to be taken as a raft, so choose A's policy on health means one is approving The Party's whole platform.

Just the Soviet System in another guise in the end.

    • There is only one party in the United States, the Property Party ... and it has two right wings: Republican and Democrat. Republicans are a bit stupider, more rigid, more doctrinaire in their laissez-faire capitalism than the Democrats, who are cuter, prettier, a bit more corrupt – until recently ... and more willing than the Republicans to make small adjustments when the poor, the black, the anti-imperialists get out of hand. But, essentially, there is no difference between the two parties. [ 1975 --- later on the Clintons triangulated the Ds to a more neoliberal anti-poor party than the Rs ].
