    This simply couldn't be helped. There were no fixed-rate data plans like we have now. This was also the era of off-peak hour discounts (a flat rate from 11 p.m. until 8 a.m. the next day). This was right about the time that ISDNs were popping up here and there.

    I'm like this when it comes to my drawings, can perfectly relate here. It's usually me having to find loads of image references so that they can help me better with drawing the characters, the backgrounds or certain objects that would seem really tough for me to do from my memory.

    It's obvious to almost anyone now, but remember that this happened many years ago, before the internet became really popular. It's eminently possible that someone, back then, unfamiliar with drawing manga, wonder why Kogasa spends so much time on the net. Perhaps they hadn't even used the internet themselves yet.

    Never assume the answer is obvious to the person who is asking it, there is a incredible amount of not-knowing stuff going around, which makes explaining stuff often even harder because the explanation needs to be explained.

    It was a strange, dark time when an educational video (on VHS!) could say "if you use the internet a lot, more than ten hours a month" and mean it.
