From what I know, the site resizes images automatically to fit them better in your screen (though it will only refit images that are too large into something smaller). It does this to animations too, however when gifs/videos/animations are resized they cannot function properly. Hence why selecting "View original" will allow the animation to play, because you're restoring it's original state.
