However the statement was, it seems to got removed. That or something else happen, since it still giving me a "504 Gateway time out"
Nah, the Cover site has been running slow over the past few days. Just tried it, running but slow. If I had to guess, it's not quipped for the amount of traffic it's getting.
I don't follow Vtubers. What happened to these two?
I don't follow em too but seems it is quite the news for the anime fans out there, basically from what I've seen, the 2 read the google analytics of who views(?) their content, and did the "high sin" of calling Taiwan a country and the Chinese got angry at them and harassed them so they company suspend them.
Some say they didn't even said Taiwan is a country, just showed a graph(?) and Taiwan just happened to be in the breakdown.
This is what I gather being an outsider of these kind of things.
I'm sure everyone has acted extremely discreditably; however for those of us less quick-witted...
1/ Stuff about Youtube and the company's 'talents' appearing thereon: talents are sanctioned.
2/ Talents receive death threats and wild abusive messages. Company deletes etc. the offending videos.
3/ Due to this not working the talents who received death threats etc. will be 'disciplined'.
.
Is it just me or are all these people nuts ? Particularly the last bit...
Cover has shown time and time again they’re a bunch of ball-less, spineless cock suckers that are useless in protecting their employees. These fuckers will sell out their girls in a heartbeat without a sense of remorse just to make money.
Fuck them. With the way they act, they’ll go bankrupt in a matter of years the moment the whole Vtuber fad fades out and when other actual better company appears and they deserve it. When that happens, it’ll be a time for celebration.
If they are to fire or actually discipline Coco or Haato in anyway, then their entire company deserve to burn. I’ll never forgive them for what they done to Mano and every time some shit like this happens, it just cements how much I hate them.

The reasoning wasnt for just Coco and Haato, it was to also protect the talents in Hololive CN that were also being harassed just for being affiliated
tl;dr: Haato and Coco ate shit for Hololive CNs sake
While Mano's case should've been prevented, in Coco & Hato's case, Covers is stuck between two rock. And to add Slavetothecaffeine's quote, Coco ate the shit for Haato; since it was started (unknowingly, i may add) on Haato's. Then Coco told this story at Asacoco.
It is escalating wildly since a certain topic was spoken. And I only wonder how long before this madness ends.
We wait out the suspension see if it dies down and I hope disciplined is just speak to tame the fires but nothing happens to the girls
They may need to pull english casting in bilibili or anything in the China region but I doubt there is going to be a fix that will really work without being some form of muzzle and that's just going to be a problem in itself

What it comes down to the fact that China came down on Coco and Haato with both feet, who are Japanese btw, for a truly minor thing. It shows to everyone that China are psycho about their national ambitions and are the biggest ass hole on Earth. Coco I feel for her the most. She was a poor girl before becoming a Vtuber Idol and got a pile of money from it, only for China to yank it away leaving her in dire straits again!

Just to clarify things because it seems people aren't reading the whole story:
Cover's new statement basically outlines the process as to why they did what they did. Basically, they let Coco keep streaming for a while, but when the attacks on her streams and the threats to her on Twitter and such didn't stop or slow, they "punished" her and Haato with a 3 week suspension. I say "punish" because while it's worded that way, it's very clear if you read between the lines that it was framed as a punishment to try to appease the antis while it actually was to get Haato/Coco away from the shitstorm for a while to wait for things to calm down. Because oh boy is there a shitstorm, especially on the Twitter side of things.
Tanigou/Yagoo, the CEO, also suffered a pay dock to publicly show punishment on the management side of things and also to further appease the antis out for blood. There's also a setup for a new committee that will handle potential problematic content for the future.
As for Haato/Coco, they will *never* be fired, because not even Cover's that dumb. Doing so would essentially break Hololive into irrecoverable pieces, and may even cause a talent exodus. Haato has even renamed her Twitter name to "Rebirth at 10/19" meaning she's more than definitely planning to come back, and there are reports of Coco basically just taking it easy while waiting for this to calm down.
And as a reminder, this is very different from the Aloe case where she was being harassed by her own countrymen to the point where she decided it was better to quit to save her sanity and family's safety. Haato/Coco have very prominent fanbases, and Coco especially is super influential among Hololive that her leaving would do more harm than good.
Also, while people are rightfully pissed at the Chinese antis' current hatestorm over something incredibly slight as saying "Taiwan," people do have to remember that not every Chinese fan is on board with this hate mob (because this is quite honestly hurting public perception of them as a fanbase than actually achieving anything useful) and Cover doesn't exactly want to leave those Chinese fans behind because they did help Hololive grow in the early years, and many of the 1st/2nd gen talents have lots of fans on Bilibili. Plus there's also the CN branch to think about, as they've done literally nothing wrong. So Cover is literally stuck between a rock and a hard place if they want to protect all their talents and please all the fanbases. The current measures are apparently their best attempt at calming things down.
Reserve all judgment until after the 3 weeks are over and the dragon and the eldritch Australian god come back. Because they will.
Public shaming is a tried and true Communist tactic. They don't *care* about justice. They care about control. Doesn't hurt that the one who is doing the shaming gets off riding high on self-righteousness.
Why try to appease to antis and haters is what I don't get. How much revenue do antis and haters generate, to begin with?
I think its more they don't have a choice and that if they don't at least try to temper it, it will blow to a even bigger shitstorm. As much as it piss me off, after reading through their statement and whatnot and calming down, it really is all they can do. Of course, it will never appease scumbag fucktards like those but what's important is to make a show and not get the Chinese Government itself involve.
From what I see, the CCP itself doesn't really care all that much in truth, since this is very minor although still "provocative" action, however it can and will get worse if the antis and haters aren't at least shut up and fuck off cause if they are allowed to keep screaming and yelling, actually getting the attention of the Chinese government, then it will get super fucky and out of control.
It would seem that it's more than just money anymore(in part) and more of preventing the dumpster fire from spreading any bigger.
I still think that it is Cover's fault for fucking up so massively(again) and then trying to throw Coco and Haato under the bus but only decided to take a more "neutral" stance once shit hit the fan and once even the people that are NOT the antis and haters started to scream as well.
Hopefully they finally learn their goddamn lesson and do get that damage control committee or whatever so that they can more easily curb stuff like this in the future before it blows. But, once again, I won't hold my breath.
It seems you are right on the money, but it doesn't change the fact that this happened over such a subject as Taiwan. The main problem here is the outspoken Chinese's handling of this, as any thing that doesn't follow their narrative is something that must be destroyed. While there are definitely Chinese individuals that go against this, it really does seem as though the culture itself is hostile to anything against their government. As well, I don't think this would be as much of an issue if the CCP didn't have a history of pulling dumb stuff like this.
If I owned an international company, I would keep my dealings with China at a minimum, since while I won't make all the money, I would make some and wouldn't need to constantly bend the knee.

I totally agree with this feeling, but then again... If I had a multinational company, maybe my way of thinking would change, what with a change of values and priorities.
Still, for now, I hate how the whole international entertainment industry bends over to the CCP's every whim.

Put it like this: If I don't absolutely need China in order to keep my company running as it usually does, the I would keep it to a minimum. If my company's success/continued existence depends on China, then so be it.
The problem is that most of these companies are not put in this position and just accept Chinese (and even American) authoritarianism. They will sacrifice any number of morals and ethics if it means they can line their pockets. Just look at the shit Activision Blizzard pulled with the whole Diablo Immortal and BlitzCheung controversy.

unfortunately thats how you make business, sometimes you have client that keep buying your product but their personality is shitholebag. you keep doing business with this client for the money while tolerating its several dumbshit behaviour that you still can endure. . and you have less profitable client who seldom buying but he is very professional and a nice guy. you keep business with him to keep the minimum cost quota even if not much. . then there is this SSR rare client with huge purchase + bonus and also nice guy. you keep praying that he will come again, be extra nice to him even tho you know this huge purchase isnt everyday things
Makes sense, but at least to my knowledge, you have to go to extremes when it comes to China, possibly as far as allowing a whole other company deal with your stuff in China. For companies that are already making bank, it really shouldn't be worth the effort to go that far.
I guess the best way to put it is that the CCP desires absolute control over its citizens, but financial success in the open market naturally combats that, so in order to have their cake and eat it too, they force companies and other nations to abide by its authoritarian rules or miss out on their market. Other countries do this as well, obviously, but China has become so egregious in its arrogant nature that it honestly borders on parody at this point.

Whilst taking nothing away from your excellent point, I may say that if I ever have a company, I shall have absolutely nothing to do in the United States, nor even sell to them; not simply because that opens one up to being ripped off by a cast of thousands; nor even because of litigation with a repellent associated association with American lawyers; but because American Law now asserts an imperium over the whole globe, prosecuting non-American persons and companies [ see J. Assange, an Australian ] and jailing them in the maw of that hideous prison-money complex.
I would be unlikely to ever be in danger of that Gulag, but the mere thought that they think American Laws trump other laws is infuriating --- no other Empire has done that [ maybe, the Mongols, I dunno ]; nearly all deferred to local law most of the time as a matter of courtesy.
.
So in future perhaps it will be as well to avoid the PRC in addition.
Also... I think of Taiwan as a country, so damn their eyes.
I don't think of it as the 'True China' and I find Chiang Kai-shek a ghastly man for that matter, only slightly less greedy and venal than George Washington, so might not fit in if they still glorify him as his family of thieves; but they have the right to exist without the Chinese say-so. Or mine.
I must agree on the point of the U.S. being a mess to deal with in terms of business, though I believe so for different reasons. It has mostly to do with the slow death of competition in the U.S. leading to stagnation and corruption. For example, if you look at ISPs like Comcast, they have a veil of non-monopolism by claiming to be competing against each other, but looking at the brass tacks of it, its quite clear that they divided up the country and are ruling their own "areas" quite stringently. Our government allows this because they are in bed with them, and the people allow it because they are apathetic. Its similar to China in some ways, though I will always think worse of China because of the straight-up 1984 shit they pull like social credit scores.
Also, George Washington is definitely a flawed, almost villainous character, but after doing a lot of research on him in college, I can't help but think of him as one of history's greatest men, ESPECIALLY when compared to other presidents. It takes a certain type of man to helm an idea like the United States.
