This is based in some old donald duck comic where a familiar of donald is recieved by his long gone relatives in the same way.
And The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck where you see Scrooge's father talking with his wife, then his ancestor, and finally walking through a wall to "meet everyone" while you see from the same angle that he's still in his bed. That shook me the first time I figured that out.
