"I learned a little about how to listen to Hatsune Miku.
It has been quite some time since Hatsune Miku made her big break, but I've never really been one to listen to music much. Even at NicoNicoDouga I'd mostly just upload videos of my pets and never browse very much. I've pretty well ignored everything Vocaloid related but a family member bought a CD so I tried listening to it.
Honestly, when you listen to the songs you can't help but realize they're made by a machine voice. I imagine it's quite difficult to artificially create voice data, but frankly it sounds terrible. At the least, by any ordinary measure of singing skill this shouldn't even be on the market.
Though, since there's not much emotion in the songs, I can listen to them in the background while I work without it bothering me, so I gave it try. Later, while listening to it, I suddenly felt a cold sensation pressing against the back of my neck and had my attention pulled towards the singing.
This wasn't an issue with the lyrics or the song being good or bad. What had happened was that I had unconsciously attributed Hatsune Miku's singing to a living human being and then been jarred by the machine voice which sounded like a human singing with a completely empty soul.
So, I tried playing the album again with that same thought in mind, that somewhere there exists an entity known as Hatsune Miku and she is singing this. At that point the poor intonation and bad accent sounded more like the singing of a pure intelligent entity which had never used its voice in order to live, and that was interesting.
I suppose the many people who support Hatsune Miku attribute the program's voice to the character on the packaging and don't give it a second thought. In that sense, the weight of the character's existence is very large."
We're going to sigh and eat tangerines.Even a Vocaloid is going to wear a jersey at home.
