Why does every female character have to have big eyes, childish facial proportions and clothing that is forced to be revealing in nonsensical ways? Like for the love of god, even genderswaps can't escape facial moefication and weird outfits? :/

@K2520 ... I'm not going to bump this but um... You do know what site you are on right? There is a very distinct style most of the art on this site follows and you just basically described it. Now admittedly you have a slight point on revealing in nonsensical ways part but that is also rather popular with a lot of anime-style artists.

I didn't mean just the art on this site, I was talking in general. It's become the standard in most anime/manga, and I just wish that wasn't the case and there was more variety in faces, eye designs and sensible outfits, like with male characters. I'm sorry, I was just feeling desperate about it and wanted to let it out.
...Why not? People like pretty images, and things you described are things that fans of anime and manga find pretty. Majority of them like cute, sexy and femine characters and if some of them are artistically talented they draw exactly this.
Also, comparison to male characters and how these got better end of stick kinda don't work on website where i lately see a very surprising number of half-naked, overly muscular bara-style men huh.

Osamu Tezuka, "the Father of Manga", "the Godfather of Manga" and "the God of Manga", was the person behind the most prevalent large eyes style. The eyes were influenced by Betty Boop and many Disney movies (the guy watched "Bambi" 80 times). Practically speaking, he received his titles because with his publican of "New Treasure Island", he had sparked the Manga Revolution in Japan.
His influential works such as "Astro Boy", "Princess Knight", "Kimba the White Lion", "Black Jack", "Pheonix", "Dororo", and "Bhudda" are still highly regarded series.
He founded Mushi Productions, which eventually financially collapsed and former members began a new animation studio called "Nippon Sunrise Inc." (Currently Sunrise Inc.) that is currently known for series such as: Gundam, Cowboy Bebop, Space Runaway Ideon, Armored Trooper Votoms, Yoroiden Samurai Troopers, Future GPX Cyber Formula, Crush Gear Turbo, The Vision of Escaflowne, Love Live!, Witch Hunter Robin, My-HiME, My-Otome, Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, Tiger & Bunny, Cross Ange: Rondo of Angel and Dragon.
His legendary status and influence in the manga and anime world effectively set the standards of the industry today.
He would die from stomach cancer in 1989. His last words were: "I'm begging you, let me work!", spoken to a nurse who had tried to take away his drawing equipment.

I was not bashing the style. I like it too, but it's not the only way for a 2D female to be appealing. Non-neotenous faces can still look beautiful and feminine. Just look at anime guys. :/ Just nevermind. I'd end up writing a wall of text if I tried to explain myself any further. That'd be embarrassing.
Bara style is still pretty unpopular overall, but yeah, if it somehow became mainstream to draw most anime guys in bara style, then I'd also find it pretty annoying. Men don't have to be macho with ridiculous muscles.

Most of us know that early anime was influenced by disney. Yeah, the trend of large eyes is fairly old; even Astro Boy had giant eyes, but I wasn't exactly talking about that or about eyes only. I was referring to moe styles, which are relatively more recent, involve tropes more than just eyes and have become way too prevalent and repetitive even in fanart. But okay, thanks for the info. I appreciate it

I just want to point out that moe, hentai and fanservice in anime are not some modern inventions and were extremely prevalent already in 80s. So calling them "relatively recent" is kind of factually wrong.
And even if we ignore that part, people crying "anime is not the same as before!" and "moe and boobs ruined everything!" appeared already in early 00s, which means that even if we talk about "recent" history it would be almost 20 years...
