Been wondering about that as well. I guess the logic is that if you've got your egg yolk nice and runny, sandwiching it between two slices of bread plus whatever else you put in them will cause the yolk to break earlier than one would want to, but at the same time that's just potentially messy getting the yolk to spill out of the bread.

I’ve had a sandwich like that once at some midfancy cafe. It’s recommend that you eat it with a knife and fork instead of like a normal sandwich though.

Some months back I had a burger with egg from a local fast food place and got to eating as soon as I got home. I had expected the egg drip out of the bun so I ate it over a plate. Instead the yolk exploded when I bit into it and I ended up with an egg facial.

Really want another one of those now. The burger that is not a facial...though maybe if you guys ask nicely...
