Hello everyone, some of you may be celebrating the new year right on the middle of the Atlantic apparently... so if you are checking this on a flight (how awesome is that? and how awesome is your taste in art?) happy new year and the same for everyone even if it's just an arbitrary increment in the year, surely we could use a better year everytime.

For me at least I hope is much better and there have been major developments in the last few weeks which will certainly change that. First of all, I got a job that will allow me more freedom economically and thus more time to dedicate to my art and obviously less stress which helps reduce the amount of art blocks.

Anyhow, about this cover, in case you are one of those who knows absolutely nothing about comic books, it's based on the cover for Amazing Fantasy #15, which was the first appearance of Peter Parker/Spider-Man. You may think it's strange on how the first appearance of some heroes wasn't in a self-named title, like Superman in Action Comics, Batman in Detective Comics and Harley Quinn in Batman the Animated Series (wut? more on that some other day!).

Comic publishers typically had a publication where they had single shots for characters and then if proved popular, they would go on to have their own title. Similar to how Shonen Jump is actually several mangas in one and then you can get the compilations of single stories.

On the other hand, Marvel had to resort to these titles constantly as DC had the monopoly of comic distribution (I think it was Diamond?) and Marvel was only allowed to publish a maximum of 6 titles, so this was their way to have multiple storylines developing, though soon after Marvel grew enough to break this and eventually dethrone DC as the major publisher and well, lots of things happened after that too.

Back to this cover. Spider-Man and Steve Ditko created Spider-Man, both of whom passed away this year, but at the time of coming up with the cover, Stan Lee didn't like Ditko's cover, so he went to the next desk with Jack Kirby and must have asked him something like "Yo Kirby, ma' man, can you come up with a legendary classic cover for Spider-Man in the next 2 hours?" and Kirby must have named curses in many languages known and unknown to man, but then proceeded with the task and thus this cover was made.

I also went to see Spider-Man into the spiderverse last night and it was Amazing. It's the most Spider-Man film to date, finally bringing the character to what he should be, all of them. Though a bit on the cartoony side (even ignoring some cartoon pigs), it's still spot on. The amount of Easter eggs is insane, as the multiverse allowed it and the after credits scene had me eager for a sequel as it shows something I wondered why it was left out. So go promptly to see it.

And as always, thanks for following and if you want to support in other ways or get commissions done, check the information below and happy 2019!
