Well, this character's story would have become a tragedy if she just rejected him and left forever after all that build up.

The guy finally realized/admitted that he knew of her feelings after all this time and that he was leading her on. Opening up about his own weakness let her see that she wasn't just his last choice, but rather the person he was honestly too shy to confess to the entire time. Making her feel that she was that important to him is what she truly needed.

I think it's a nice ending for a happy romance.

I think it would be possible for the story to resolve in a good way if he let her leave; it could play out like Otaku doesn't stop her because he's too shocked at how that played out and doesn't process that she left until she's gone. Then he'd go chase her down afterwards.

I think it'd be less thematically resonant since he just spent a fair bit of time processing his emotions, though.

There's still room for an epilogue. In particular, I want to see Himekawa's reaction when she finds out about this. Some sort of grudging "wow, a pathetic creature like you managed to do something right for once", perhaps. Or maybe some kind of snark on the theme of "tsk, you made sempai cry after all", but without the usual amount of venom...

The problem is that she didn't do much. Even at talking too.

I'll admit i was rough on this series, more than I should have been. But they knew what they were doing and they did a good job.

She had a late start, checked less boxes on the fetish list and only revealed to be a childhood friend at the end and only to the readers.
