And there are rare cases where the pilot keep it moving through sheer willpower. Such as the Devil of Tekkadan.
That's kind of justified with the in-lore technical explanation made beforehand. And in this particular case, it was a pact made with flesh and blood offering.

So... hidden 'magic' blackbox system feature? Along with the pilot 'awakening' to employ it.

Ah right, there was the pact thing too. I supposed Akihiro is a more appripriate example, he never overclocked the system and still survived long enough to kill Iok

Mostly the former. The blackbox in this case is the Alaya-Vijnana System, a system that interface the pilot's nervous system with the machine, allowing them to control it like their own body. But due to how powerful the system is, the creators tried to hide any info about this system from public after the devastating Calamity War ended. The technology still get leaked, incomplete version so the "installation" has a high risk of failure. What didn't get leaked was the fact you can overclock the system at the cost of some of your bodily functions. But the anime instead portray the overclocking as if the MC, Mikazuki is making a deal with the devil (Gundam Barbatos), and he is the only one to able to do it in the show. It isn't clear if Mikazuki is the only person able to do it because he is special or Barbatos is special
