On side note, it is interesting how playable META ships so far were originally purple rarity ships. It makes me wonder if Ash and Ember or any META ship from SR(EN)/SSR(JP) counterpart will have different rarity.

It's not likely that they will have different rarity, since every META ships would be considered another tier of rarity altogether. Unless...they gonna separate META ships from Ashes ships, and Ashes ships would only be obtainable via something like server-wide raid.
It is explained in this event's story (clear C3/D3 few more times) that META ships are essentially KAN-SENs from future timeline that has lost their Commander and obtained unimaginable power by tapping into the Siren part of the Cubes they're made from, yet still retain enough reason and belief to the (present) Commander that he's able to prevent the bad future and NOT to go apeshit on current Sirens for the sake of revenge. Ashes are simply META ships that's unlocked too much of Cube's power and used it to do some timey-wimey stuff, such as travelling to different timelines to prevent Commander's death and failed multiple times, so they thought the only way to save the future was to eliminate each and any sirens. Souryuu, the boss of this event is on the verge of transitioning into Ashes ship from her current META form, which is indicated by ability to create Mirror Sea.
