the original 57.3 mb picture seems to be unavalable to be loaded , whats wrong?

To load any large files (around 20mb or higher) they work better when you open the picture in its own tab/window. Just r-click on the original image link and choose open in a new tab/window and they will (almost all the time) start to download.

INCREDIBLY absurdres? That's a new one for me.

Working on 2 Terabytes images for landscape photographics makes this pic pretty little... This is relative. Only slow bandwith makes this pic large.

Or ~200MB Hubble Telescope pictures...
But they are tiff files.

But a 50MB PNG? Yep, major overkill.
