IIRC this pose is a reference to one of the RL Golshi's races where he decided to rear up just like this while making that exact same facial expression... 'randomly' in the middle of the race, blocking the path. When at a 'conveniently' narrow segment of said path.

His RL jockey was far less enthused about things.
About his jockey, his job is to ride him and pray if he wants to run or not. Remember in Takarazuka Kinen 2014 he did this pose to threaten his neighbouring horse, resulting in late start and burn 14 million yen ticket at the time since he is the favourite to win at that time.
While his jockey is less enthused about this, his groom actually more familiar with it since most of the stable hands get bitten by him or kicked so hard it broke some ribs. So yeah, the jockey is pretty much riding Gold Ship, praying he runs well, and try to not use his whip too much.

Gold Ship is real genius. He’s never run against his will.
