No one has a problem because they “don’t know how bras work” The problems people have are that
1 when you remake something you want it to be like you remembered. A significant amount of people didn’t like the change to real time battle all the way though. For some reason, they don’t have people high fiving eachother while they collectively insult them.
2 This is Tifa. One of the most iconic girls in all gaming and loved for being a sex symbol while also kickingass (and being generally great but I could go on for years on this, so I’ll stop). This so also the long awaited remake so people wanted this to be soem right. There were people worried that the cross dressing my scene would he censored years in advance. People were worried that Tifa, specifically was going to have have her sex appeal nerfed. Why?
3 there have been issues with censorship of videos games and other such media, especially from Japan in recent years. Especially from Sony. It actually caused some developers to basically create watered down ports on the system as protest since they were locked into contracts, caused delays and cancellations and caused at least one prominent director developer to quit his team and join another company. So this isn’t just “angry pathetic perverts on the internet” upset about this. This was a concern as soon as the game was announced, and it came true, and there was nothing we could do about it but watch it happen. There are a lot of people tired of this feeling with stuff that they love.
4 She isn’t just “wearing a sports bra now lol!” It was a deliberate decision to “restrict her chest” as the creator of the game , that was was due to an “ethics committee” deciding that it would be “unnatural”. Didn’t look “unnatural” before. This is a fantasy game. It’s probably gonna look “unnatural” when she suplexes a giant snake but I doubt that’s going to change. This decision was not made for the sake of the fans or with the slightest regard to our opinions. It wasn’t to make the game better. It was unilaterally decided in some corporate room for the sake of “ethics” and soem guys opinion on “naturalness”
There are people like me who are sick and tired of having so-called morals and ethics imposed on them unilaterally. I'm just glad we've had this giant surge in Tifa fanart since the remake came along. We were never short on it before but more is always better.
And it came at the expense of everything worth loving about her. She went from something to special to bland and unpleasant.
How does Tifa compare to every girl from a fighting game? In terms of looks, she's rather unremarkable, and no gimmick or style. Even in terms of a JRPG, she's got nothing really going for her. Ayla from Chrono Trigger did the sexy monk thing way better.

The tag here states "It is intended for wear during vigorous exercise that might cause the breasts to move uncomfortably or excessively, preventing discomfort and potential embarrassment during exercise." she was probably thought of having worn a bra but it's not like the PSX could show off the greatest detail all the time. Compared to her art (apparently I've had 012 Dissidia in mind), it's really not much different in *that* area.

Spats can have their own appeal to someone's rear in the same way I think, but that's something else entirely. I think it would depend on the game genre and what it called for (though most playable characters wore pants or shorts anyways). If you know it was inevitable to see a character like that, you probably would just model them since it wouldn't be as awkward as The Void. Contrast with Smash Brothers where they limit your camera anyways and have stuck with the void til now? I'm unsure.

They censored that too. Along with the shorts, they completely redid the skyscraper staircase sequence to ensure the player could never walk behind Tifa. And they also had a cutscene where Barret picks her up and throws her over his shoulder, while also covering her butt with his gunarm. It was stupid that he picked her up, but the censorship inception compounded it. They don't want you to see her panties, they have her wear shorts, and then they make sure you can't see under her skirt...to see her shorts.
The whole point of a bar hostess wearing a short skirt is to tease the clientle. A woman wearing a skirt with an obvious set of shorts is completely defeating the purpose. You're not going to attract customers that way.
The slums are not a nice place to live. They destroy the value of human life as surely as Shinra's corporate culture. One way or another, you will be stripped of your rights, dignity, and even your life. And the Remake undermines both themes by portraying them as valid life-styles.

Her skirt was a block in the original game. There were no panties (As you pointed out, the legs weren't modelled entirely).
In Ehrgeiz, they just colored that part of the legs black. Which makes it look like black shorts/spats.
White panties were there for the first Dissidia she was in.
The 2nd Dissidia (NT), it was censored black in there so you couldn't see what it was.
When I think about it, the fact that Ehrgeiz came first means that the black spats are arguably the original (assuming the original game was just technical limitations).
