It's probably because I have no skill in relating or reading people's emotions, but many of these eyes don't exactly look like they're displaying the emotions they're supposed to...

The eyes alone don't make emotions, you have to imagine how they play together with the whole body language. They all make sense to me.

Ah, I see. I was picturing them on the wrong side of the face. Imagining the rest of the face helps a bit, but they still look a bit off to me...

I agree, all of them look a little annoyed. I think its from the tiny/light pupils and the darker upper lid.

It is the lack of eyebrows that make them so random, too.
