I'm kinda....diggin this right now, it's trappish but....damn hot.
Shinji and Kaworu both have this effect on people. As has been pointed out, Shinji is basically the male equivalent of the helpless, moe girl like Hanako of katawa_shoujo or Matsuri of ichigo_mashimaro. And Kaworu is basically a bisexual incubus.

Err, Shinji certainly is the most moe/uke Gainax boy around but it's not exactly like that; Shinji might normally be passive and conciliatory but he has abandonment issues and in the films ends up doing all sorts of destructive and violent things out of desperation, like strangling Asuka for abandoning him and in 2.0 having his physical form lost and, nearly destroying the world because if Rei was gone he’d be alone...Kaworu had to penetrate him with a lance to save everyoneXD), so I guess Shinji’s a definite yandere. But yes that youtube genderswap video of episode 24 kind of does make it look like Kaworu and Shinji are mirror versions of bishoujo archetypes.
