Light weight and worth quite a lot of caps, ideal for selling to vendors.
Well laser-based weapons in fallout and especially in 4 where like most guns are pretty customizable. With the right combination + perks you can melt even Deathclaws. The major drawback is ammo itself (can't blame as stuff as this aren't something as common as typical rifle ammo)

I never found laser guns to be noticeably weaker than the average ballistic weapon.
Clearing any synth infested area will get you hundreds of fusion cells, gunners and BoS also love them, and leaving at least one enemy alive prevents the area from being "Cleared" allowing it to repopulate in up to seven days iirc, instead of 20 if it were fully cleared.

I usually slaughter the entire camp because somehow after i fast travel to sell item i travel back to the camp and it was repopulated again
