Well, since the author is going with "Dying Elf" for "ボロボロのエルフさん" and "Apothecary" for "薬売りさん", should we change the pool name?

I'll probably go back and edit Apothecary's name in previous entries (I needed to go back to sub in Reszurre's name in most of them anyway), but I don't have time for it this morning...

Where did you see the author write how the names should be translated?

It's in the middle of this title card here, in really small text on the sides of the X. Reszurre I was just going by the tag name; I'm not sure where it was officially stated that was the romanization for her name, but... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Holy shit, that is text. I thought that was just some dots until I hit the full size button.

Looking at the Twitter feed, someone had posted some hard translations of the original, but they're just some guy on Twitter responding to the author, not official. I guess the author just took what that guy tweeted to him and made it official?

"Boro boro" is usually a sound effect for "battered" or "beaten up", which is why that's how it was translated here, it's a stretch to go for "dying" from that, although it can make sense in context. I'd leave it up to the translator of this series to figure out whether they want to change everything, though.

'Boro boro' in this case is best translated to 'tattered' because a 'beaten up elf' or 'battered elf' makes impression that she's just fresh out of a losing battle.

It's quite possible that the author may include official romanizations for the names in the collected volume this post is advertising. And, if they don't match the existing notes, I'll change them (again). Though, as I am the translator for this series, I will be going back in the next couple of days to match the current tag for Reszurre's name (regardless of where it came from, as I do like it better than the straight phonetic spelling I was going with) and this Apothecary romanization for Kusuriuri/Medicine Merchant.

But this only applies to notes. As I am lazy, I will not be going back to change any of the commentaries, which is the only place "ボロボロのエルフさん" appears other than the pool title. I, too, think that "dying" is a bit of a stretch for "ボロボロ", but as stated, it is relevant in context, especially with how Apothecary originally found her. As my translations focus on conveying as much artist intent as possible, if this is the title the artist has decided on, I'm in favor of changing the pool name to match, so... unless there are people vehemently against it, I probably will change that as well when I go back to make the other changes.

Considering the author has apparently made art of Reszurre "healed" up, and it's a match for the scarred elf on the right, I'm not sure "dying" is correct. That said, no way to tell for sure until the last pages are written.

I mean, again, I think the "dying" is more in reference to how he found her than any sort of foreshadowing and based purely on it being written, in English, by the author/artist, on this image. It's not a translation choice on my part.

Welp, unless I'm misunderstanding gibagiba, it looks like another mangaka is doing their own take on the story, with the English title of simply "Apothecary and Dying Elf." The art style looks like gibagiba, but people in the Twitter comments are pointing out it's a different artist doing his style.

Unfortunately, it's on Niconico, and it looks like you need to download the app and pay to read past the first chapter...

Highlights from the first chapter (spoilered):

    • Kusuriuri-san is ripped as Hell.
    • We get to see him heal a couple of kids before meeting Reszurre-san.
    • We get to actually see Reszurre-san's horrifying details, including her gums with the missing teeth and her empty eye socket.
    • Some new details about Reszurre-san, such as finger bruises on her neck, indicating she had been choked.
    • Kusuriuri-san's past is foreshadowed, as he has a nightmare while nodding off as he watches over Reszurre-san.
