Actually, it's not that complicated. So, there is this Chinese fan wiki of the game. All the Umas' names in there are translated to Chinese from Japanese (which is already clunky in some part due to Katakana transcription of English names) Then, someone got the bright idea of re-translating all the names back to Japanese (using a low-quality machine translator apparently), and the result is pure chaos. With names like "Rice Bath", "Manchester City Cafe", and of course "Dobomejirou".
TL;DR: It was just a meme name, no big brain level word play here.
You... read shoujo manga as well? Not normally, no, but this one really appeals to me... Maybe because the author is a man?Really...? That manga was written by a man... who is it?It was some geezer-sounding name, pretty sure...Man, this is so interesting... Shoujo manga's really got it going on these days! You wanna read it too, Dober?...I'm fine.Since it's a story about a trainer and an umamusume, it really resonates with me, see?
Wonder if the old dude used to be a trainer himself? And man, this heroine...She's got tsundere written on her in mile-high neon lights, but the guy has this weird utter obliviousness... it's super frustrating, yeah...?"Dobome Jirou"-sensei.
Mejiro Dober > Dooberu Mejiro > Doberu Mejiro > Doboru Mejiro > Dobome Jirou It's...
