Yes. Remember that the ambient air temperature here in the tropics is around 30C (~85-90F for you Imperials) and around 30-60% humidity on average. If you don't fridge that cake, it's gone in a day.

Hmm. Here we have higher humidity but milder temperatures and a cake being fine on the counter for a week before it starts to mold is pretty standard.
