This is obviously Game Canon Red, not Pokemon Special Red. Note the lack of expression and the fact that he does, indeed, have a Flareon, not an Espeon. I would think it would be obvious from the strip title, too, since Mt. Silver is where Red goes to train in the GSC games.

And everyone simply assumes that he uses the same 6 Pokemon over and over again. He probably does come down here sometimes y'know.
