1 month later and the developers never actually acknowledge him being trans as anything more than a headcanon, so I imagine that wasn't what people were supposed to think in the end

You're correct, it is a Androgyne symbol which suites the character of Bridget. I'll take the L on that one. The correct use of the icon along with the "cowgirl" line still makes the head canon claims ridiculous, however.

I think plently of people could make fanart of a character being murdered or raped with no intention of doing those things themselves. I won't shame a style so long as it is just kept in art. Misgendering someone in art could imply the person making the art really doesn't care about the characters gender and possibly anyone's gender in the LGBT community. I won't make accusations, but it doesn't look good on the surface. There's a difference between having a strange interest and genuinely being anti-LGBT. I hope that clears things up.

So yeah, just like Siegfried said, rape, torture, murder, assassination are okay, but misgendering a fictional character insults everyone and is the worst thing in the history of horrible things.
I do appreciate that you admit to the projection on a fictional character and how sympathetic you are to a fictional character 's nonexisting plight. I think there's a word for people who feel obligated to defend fictional characters like you do, whether they're ponies, Sonic original characters, or boys.

But don't forget, guys, if you insult a video game fictional character, you insult an entire community.

Tagging implications aside, you could even argue that Bridget is a boy throughout GGST and only becomes a girl at the end, which is a major spoiler. There's no costume change after, just like how Sol Badguy doesn't lose the headband he permanently loses in the story after losing his powers.

If there's another Guilty Gear sequel, maybe Bridget will actually be a full-fledged girl in it (though she isn't far) and they'll change what symbol she's wearing. Bridget might also be of the unpopular viewpoint that you're only actually trans if you get HRT and surgery or something, so they might stick with the androgynous symbolism anyway if it's even there in the next redesign.

I'm not even trying to go into the merit of Bridget being a boy or a girl.
We can't ask for Bridget's opinion on the matter because of the whole "fictional character" thing.

We need to rely on Word of God for this, and God (ARC SYSTEMS) has been kinda silent in this whole discussion. Either they don't care or it's clever marketing.

What we do have, at the moment, are two sides fighting about the interpretation of a short dialogue at the end of the character campaign.
A dialogue that can easily be interpreted as many things, ranging from things as "coming out as a girl" or, say, "pretending to be a girl" like otoko-no-ko characters sometimes do to get what they want or joke about.

So people can get caught in this crossfire, because since the whole situation is polarized, if the artist (or the fan) ever say one specific pronoun, the side that hates that interpretation will massacre the person.

It's how I see things at this moment. Personally. People are seething with rage on both sides and out for blood at any chance.
I may be missing an official statement, maybe even a simple Twitter post, from the game creators, clearing this whole debacle.
Until then, I can't take a stance.
