I assume it's related to Mumei's now-deleted "Dan Dan" music video which features several references to various disasters as a sort of "dark humor". I don't know why there's sudden surge of these kind of fanarts recently, though.

Mumei always had these fanarts- Mumei watching/ being responsible for Civilization's dark side has been a theme since the start.

The surge might be because the new version of Dan Dan recently reached 2 million views.
The old version was probably removed because of the references to the Hindenburg and Challenger disasters -- some fans are old enough to have watched the latter live on TV, and the reference to the former had some very, VERY unsavory and distasteful implications about Kiara and KFP because guess which nation's flag was on the referenced airship.
