this looks like a power generation plant. and the water is there to cool down/circulate.

in a universe where humans learned to harness the power of eldritch gods, and we still use it to... boil water.
and when the iter finishes in 20 years, it will still... boil water.

I'd like to imagine when humanity finally learns star trek-style matter-antimatter reactors, we are still going to just, boil, water. go fix the pipes, geordi.
