If I had one nickel for every time a franchise got ruined by woke female directors that insisted that they model the main female lead after theirself, I would have three nickels, which ain't much, but strange since it happens three times.

The biggest problem is using established characters. If they made a completely new IP, I doubt anybody would complain, but by using a legacy character, they're stomping on the vision of their creators.

The problem is, if it was a completely new IP, no one would watch it (or at least that's how they, and their corporate higher-ups see it).

It was a cartoon made to sell cigarettes. Not Studio Ghibli.

The 355 was based on an anonymous spy named Agent 355 who, while unknown was able to successfully complete her missions, while the movie that both takes the agent's call number and spends far too long in the middle explaining who she was, had literally nothing to do with agent 355.
